Research examining more than 9,000 new hires in a large professional services firm found differences in retention and promotion outcomes across racial and gender groups. The study found that Black women were particularly affected by the racial composition of their early workplace teams, with outcomes related to turnover, promotion, performance evaluations, and work assignments.

The findings highlight the importance of looking beyond recruitment to examine how staffing, team composition, performance evaluation, and advancement practices may shape employees' workplace experiences and career outcomes.
